I have it, but wasn't able to fit it without heavy modification of the subframe. I would need to drill holes in the subframe, which didn't feel like the right idea.

Not too strange. My Leon facelift subframe doesn't have the same mounting holes as the Tiguan subframe. Even on Golf mk7 it needs holes to be drilled to fully secure the plate
