Following the new trend of replacing the Climatronic unit with the new LCD touch I placed the order for a version without seat heating (17G 907 044 N) as my native Climatronic (5G0 907 044 Q) was from factory.
Today the item was delivered to me. There was customs tax of 45.29€. The nasty surprise was that the customs officers opened the box with a sharp knife causing 2 scratches on the shiny plastic surface.
I will try later to polish this scratch and satisfy my need for perfection. I hope polishing totally restores the surface. According to a trusted professional, polishing the touch screen is not advisable, especially for a scratch that is deep to the point that it is felt by the fingernail.
Installation is simple. In my case I only needed to change the long coding of the new 17G Climatronic:

to the coding of my previous 5G0 Climatronic:
00 02 01 04 20 01 00 01 10 05 00 40 12 10 10 20
I then thought that I should proceed to adaptations but there were only 2 irrelevant adaptations which I did not touch
After coding, everyhting works as it should. I did not even face a message about "Basic settings".
There is only one error left:
Some people who bought an LCD Climatronic in Aliexpress say that they used 2 different combination of buttons:
* either the combination of "A/C" and "Rear defrost" buttons or
* the combination "A/C" and the "blower with 3 arrows"
I experimented with these 2 options but nothing happened. The error still appears and the LCD Climatronic works flawlessly. You can check the result in the next 2 photos:

I contacted the seller about the error 10007 [65543] that appears in ODIS. He suggested a different combination of buttons to perform Basic Settings. This combination can be seen in the following video:
After performing Basic Settings via hardware the error finally disappears!

To summarize, in these chinese LCD Climatronic units Basic Settings cannot be performed via ODIS or VCDS. The only solution is to perform Basic Settings via hardware and there are 3 possible ways (different on each device) ways of doing so:
* [A/C] and [Rear defrost] buttons
* [A/C] and [blower with 3 arrows] buttons or
* [A/C] and [MENU] buttons
The last combination is valid for my 17G 907 044 N unit

I only performed Basic Settings by simultaneously pressing the combination shown in my Youtube video. Nothing less nothing more. The unit works flawlessly sice then. As you read in my post units with different part number (other than 17G 907 044 N) require different button combination to perform Basic Settings. I have no knowledge which buttons are needed for 17G 907 044 AD. Maybe your seller can be helpful on this matter
The VW37XCN project was needed only to access the full adaptation map of the touch unit and understand what is hidden there. Probably accessing VW37XCN project allows you to perform Basic Settings but I have not tried it
Very nice update! But I found it a lil a bit expensive and I think this one is not so practical. I want it for my next car too, do you would recommended this? You used this now for 1 year. Would you do this for one more time?

I do not change the temperature often. I set the temperature at 22 degrees and leave it there. So not much playing around. If you use it like me then I highly recommend

Thank you my friend. Indeed it is not cheap and became even more expensive (considering taxes and polishing cost). About the crooked hands: do you think they would accept that it was their fault?
